Lot 935
1879-CC. PCGS graded MS-64 CAC Approved. Full sharp mint-mark plus blast white throughout. A lovely specimen and worthy of a premium bid. Although the 1880-CC, 1881-CC and 1885-CC all have lower mintage, the 1879-CC is the rarest CC-mint Morgan Dollar struck in the 1878 to 1885 early period. This fact notwithstanding, market offerings for examples that grade up to and including MS63 are anything but rare. MS64 and above are another matter entirely, however, and several months usually pass between auction appearances of coins that grade at this level.

A cornerstone issue, this beaming fresh CC-mint Morgan is bathed in thick, rich, frosty mint luster. Both sides present as brilliant at all angles, with everything to confirm the coin's originality. Pleasingly sharp in strike, as well, with exceptionally smooth-looking surfaces and cheek on Liberty for a CC-mint silver coin of any denomination or type. Virtually Gem (PCGS # 7086) .
Estimated Value $9,000 - 10,000.

Lot 936
1879-CC. PCGS graded MS-63. Housed in an Old Green Holder. Lightly toned and generally well struck. A plainly original white surface example, with great gleaming originality from the choice mint bloom. As seems often the case, an unconvincing impression was left by the recoil of the dies that struck much of this and the 1880-CC issue, but its evidence is rarely noticed by the average collector or even the average numismatists, since any weakness is often confined to the centers of the design. It is in this area where the silver planchet failed to completely fill the recesses of the two opposing dies. Liberty's hair has a few of the central hair strands fused, which hardly matters. The eagle's breast is rounded (although still exhibit plumage detail). Elsewhere, all is generally sharp to bold. Some light bagmarks in the field and on Liberty's profile. The head is rendered vibrant and white due to the extensive frost in this area of the coining die. A trait of the 1879-CCs and always welcome by admiring collectors (PCGS # 7086) .
Estimated Value $4,500 - 5,000.

1881-S. PCGS graded MS-68 CAC Approved. Wonderful partial rainbow toning on the obverse. The colors are intense and quite stunning. Virtually ice-white in the fields elsewhere with utterly captivating mint-fresh quality, and we mean truly mint fresh as in untouched by surface contact. Substantial detail to the highpoints on this fine example is to be expected. The 1881-S issue is renowned for its bold strikes and swirling cartwheel luster, and we see that here with a thorough and effectual imprint from the dies; there are no weak areas left by the recoil of the dies, none whatsoever (PCGS # 7130) .

1881-S. NGC graded MS-67. Star. Lovely obverse rainbow toning. A coin with a spectacular cartwheel appeal, glistening surfaces whose near-perfection appears as when first struck. A solidly graded, quality graded Premium Gem, this coin displays impressive striking definition for a Silver Dollar, as well, from this branch mint. This is to say that the strike is full, keen-edged, including those few hair strands over Liberty's ear which often keep this out of that class (PCGS # 7130) .
